I'm a unix geek. I've always known a little more about phones that the average joe on the street, but not anywhere near that of a true phreak. So, if this seems lame to you, just dont read it :P Feel free to contact me and tell me what some of this stuff is if you know. siezer@dope.org **************** 1010xxx# by siezer "Why did 10321 change to 1010321?" was is the question I asked myself one night while watching TV and seeing the guy from 3rd rock telling about it. It didnt really make me much of a diffrence, but I wanted to know why anyway. I decided that I see what would happen if i dialed other numbers besides 1010321, like say.... 1010123. So, I did. Nothing happened. I didnt get an error message, so I figured that there was some switch out there somewhere that was still awaiting more numbers. I pressed more random keys and I still got nothing. Remembering that alot of pagers and other phone systems use the # key to end numerical entry, I decided that I would dial 1010(some random 3 numbers)# to see what that got me. What I ended up with was (in a very diffrent voice than the usual error lady) "We're sorry, the number you dialed cannot be reached with the carrier access code you entered" hrmm.... "carrier access code"? I liked how that sounded. Motivated by both morbid curiosity, and lack of anything better to do, I started dialing from 1010000# on up. By the time I reached 005, I was beginning to get bored with getting the same error message over and over again, and would have quit, if I had not got a 2000khz tone on 006. I had found some sort of private phone network. I did know know who's, what kind, or how it worked, but I had found one. I tried dialing 9, then a number, nothing. I called back, dialed 5 instead, and it still didnt do anything. I would have played with it longer, but I was too curious to see what was on the rest of the 1010xxx#'s. I called 007, and got the same thing as 006. I kept going, untill I got to 009. There was a short pause, and then another dial tone. "sweet. I found a pbx", I thought to myself. I tried dialing my friends number, it didnt make any noise for a while, and then to my surprise, I heard "Hello?". "Dood! I just found a pbx or something. Whats the caller ID say?" "It says you are calling from your house. It must pass along the ANI." That sucked, but it was still a way to make calls from payphones for free. (If the phone will let you dial 1010xxx#. Ive found that only Ameritech phones around here will let you do that. Cincinatti Bell and other smaller company's phones will just give you an error message.) I needed to find what else was out there. By this time I had speaker phone on, and was hitting flash as soon as I got the beggining of the usual error message. (we had 3way disabled after had run up $30 in 3way calls.) I scanned by hand all the way up to 600. This is what I found: Some of the "DT - call anywhere" codes need an area code... some dont... play with them. 1010xxx# 006 tone - phone network (here after known as "funky tone") 007 funky tone 009 DT - call anywhere. 012 funky tone 026 "DS2..
